ProSoft Bamboo Fleece ECO-PUL: The Complete Guide to Wazoodle's Bamboo Waterproof Fabric

What ProSoft Bamboo Fleece ECO-PUL Is and Why It Matters

ProSoft Bamboo Fleece ECO-PUL is a dual-sided waterproof laminate that bonds 1 mil polyurethane film to bamboo-blend fleece using ECO-Thermal Bonding Technology (permanent film fusion independently tested 50% stronger than competitor US-made PUL).

At 300–340 GSM with a waterproof barrier rated at more than 100× any normal use pressure and breathability matched to resting body moisture output, this is Wazoodle's bamboo-based waterproof PUL — built around the bamboo viscose fiber's natural advantages of silky softness and superior moisture absorption.

The defining feature is dual-sided construction: the bamboo fleece face (64% bamboo viscose, 21% organic cotton) absorbs liquid on contact while the polyurethane film reverse prevents strike-through — both absorbency and waterproof barrier in a single fabric. Customers consistently describe the fleece face as unexpectedly soft for a waterproof material.

ProSoft Bamboo Fleece ECO-PUL features Waterproof 300X Technology (300+ wash cycle durability) and SilentFlex Technology (quiet fabric-like drape without plastic crinkle). CPSIA certified, Forever Chemicals-Free (no PFAS, BPA, phthalates). Made in USA by AKAS Tex.

For detailed technology explanations, see ProSoft ECO-Thermal Bonding Technology Discovery and ProSoft Waterproof 300X Technology Discovery.

All fabric specifications may vary ±10% due to textile industry manufacturing standards.

Choosing Your ProSoft Bamboo Fleece ECO-PUL: Standard vs Silver vs FoodSAFE

All three variants share the same waterproof barrier, breathability, and 300+ wash durability. Standard and Silver share identical construction — your choice between them depends on whether antimicrobial odor control matters for your application. FoodSAFE adds FDA food-contact certification at a slightly lighter weight.

When Standard (W-404) Is the Right Choice
  • Training pants and cloth diapers: Customer-validated for training pants where soft bamboo fleece provides comfort while PUL backing contains leaks.
  • Menstrual pad wings: Dual-sided construction is particularly suited for pad wings — bamboo fleece absorbs on the body-facing side while PUL prevents leakage on the underside.
  • Bra liners: Customers incorporate this fabric into bra liners where breathability and softness are essential for all-day direct skin contact.
  • Dog bed pillowcases: Waterproof pet bed protection where accidents or drool need containment while fleece maintains comfort.
  • Shower curtain liners: Customer-validated sewable alternative to vinyl curtains. (Note: long-term mold resistance in constantly wet environments has not been verified.)
When Silver (W-520) Is the Right Choice
  • Extended-wear absorbent products: Silver Plus odor control extends useful wear time between washes for cloth diapers, incontinence products, and menstrual pads.
  • Professional and medical accessories: Customer-validated for a nurse's bag where waterproof cleanability with antimicrobial protection meets healthcare environment requirements.
  • Planter mats: Customer-discovered application where bamboo fleece absorbs minor water seepage while PUL prevents surface damage underneath — antimicrobial treatment helps manage moisture-related odors.
When FoodSAFE (W-685) Is the Right Choice
  • Reusable food storage: Food storage bags, bowl covers, and lunch bag linings requiring FDA food-contact certification from freezer (-20°C) to 250°F. The bamboo fleece interior wicks condensation away from food.
  • Adult accessibility bibs: Customer-validated for creating bibs for individuals with disabilities — food-safe certification means the fabric is safe during mealtimes, while the fleece absorbs spills and the PUL protects clothing.
  • Baby bibs and feeding accessories: CPSIA certified + FDA food-contact safe for infant feeding products requiring both waterproofing and chemical safety.

Bleach restrictions vary by variant: Never use chlorine bleach on any variant — chlorine damages the polyurethane laminate. Standard (W-404) tolerates non-chlorine oxygen bleach sparingly. Silver (W-520) — avoid oxygen bleach to preserve antimicrobial treatment. FoodSAFE (W-685) — non-chlorine oxygen bleach only if necessary.

Working With ProSoft Bamboo Fleece ECO-PUL: Sewing and Construction Guide

ProSoft Bamboo Fleece ECO-PUL sews well using standard machine stitching — no specialized equipment required. Customers report the fabric is accessible to home sewers, and the bamboo fleece face handles well during cutting without requiring special tools.

The fabric arrives cut-and-sew ready with no pre-washing required (do NOT pre-wash — pre-washing can damage the laminate bond).

Cutting and Layout
  • Mark on fleece side only: The PUL film side is difficult to mark cleanly. Use washable chalk or disappearing markers on the bamboo fleece face.
  • Pile direction: Cut all pieces with the brushed pile running the same direction for consistent appearance and hand feel.
  • Apply talc powder to the PUL side: A customer-validated technique — talcum powder reduces friction on the film side, preventing slipping on cutting mats and helping the fabric feed through the sewing machine more smoothly.
Sewing Recommendations
  • Needles: Ballpoint needles for the knit base structure — sharp needles slice yarns and create holes that leak.
  • Presser foot: Walking foot or Teflon/glide foot prevents film sticking during sewing. Alternative: dab minimal sewing machine oil on the presser foot, or sew through wax paper.
  • Thread: Quality polyester thread (Tex-27 or 65/2 grade) exclusively — cotton and rayon threads wick moisture through needle holes.
  • Stitch length: 3.0–3.5mm reduces perforation density, helping preserve waterproof integrity.

Critical — Seam Sealing Required: Every needle hole through the polyurethane film permanently compromises waterproofing. Apply heat-activated seam sealing tape over all sewn seams to restore the waterproof barrier.

Pairing ProSoft Bamboo Fleece ECO-PUL With Other Wazoodle Fabrics

ProSoft Bamboo Fleece ECO-PUL differs from other ProSoft PUL fabrics in one important way: because the bamboo fleece face is inherently absorbent, it can serve as both the waterproof barrier and a moisture-capture layer in simpler constructions. This dual-sided function reduces the number of layers needed in some products compared to using a non-absorbent PUL paired with a separate absorbent fabric.

Absorbent Core Partners
  • Zorb Original (W-202): High-capacity absorbent interlining with rapid liquid capture. Pair with Bamboo Fleece ECO-PUL when the built-in bamboo absorbency alone is insufficient — the Zorb core adds capacity while the PUL backing provides the waterproof barrier.
  • Zorb 3D Organic Cotton Dimple (W-231): Standalone organic absorbent for heavy-capacity builds — overnight diapers and heavy-flow menstrual pads where maximum liquid holding capacity is needed above the Bamboo Fleece ECO-PUL backing.
  • ProECO Bamboo Fleece (W-257): Additional bamboo fleece layers for extra absorbency without PUL — stack unlaminated bamboo fleece as inner absorbent core with the ECO-PUL variant as the waterproof outer layer.
Proven Layer Stack Configurations
  • Skin-Contact Top → Zorb Core → ProSoft Bamboo Fleece ECO-PUL (backing): Standard multi-layer pad construction. The bamboo fleece face provides additional absorbency beneath the Zorb core while the PUL film creates the final waterproof barrier.
  • ProSoft Bamboo Fleece ECO-PUL as standalone single-layer: For applications where moderate absorbency plus waterproofing in a single fabric is sufficient — menstrual pad wings, bra liners, training pant outer layers, planter mats.

Your results may vary based on product design, construction method, and end-use requirements.

Common Applications for ProSoft Bamboo Fleece ECO-PUL

ProSoft Bamboo Fleece ECO-PUL serves applications where the dual-sided construction — absorbent bamboo fleece face with waterproof PUL backing — eliminates the need for separate absorbent and barrier layers. Customers report purchasing the fabric for one specific purpose and then discovering its potential for multiple other projects.

Training pants and cloth diapers are customer-validated for homemade training pants where soft bamboo fleece provides comfortable next-to-skin wear while PUL backing contains leaks. The 300–340 GSM weight provides substance without being too heavy for children's wear.

Menstrual pad wings and backing benefit from the dual-sided nature — bamboo fleece top absorbs while PUL bottom prevents leakage, both functions handled by a single fabric layer.
Intimate apparel includes bra liners where breathability, softness, and moisture management are essential for all-day direct skin contact.

Adult accessibility products use the FoodSAFE variant (W-685), customer-validated for adult bibs for individuals with disabilities, combining food-safe certification with absorbent spill management and waterproof clothing protection.

Pet products include dog bed pillowcases where accident or drool containment requires waterproofing while maintaining comfort.

Reusable food storage uses the FoodSAFE variant (W-685) for food storage bags, bowl covers, and lunch bag linings. The bamboo fleece interior wicks condensation while PUL creates a waterproof seal. FDA certified for all food types from freezer to 250°F.

Household moisture management includes shower curtain liners (sewable vinyl alternative), planter mats (bamboo fleece absorbs water seepage while PUL protects surfaces), and professional accessories like a nurse's bag requiring waterproof cleanability.

Fabric vs. Finished Product: CPSIA certification of the fabric component does not automatically certify your finished product. Depending on how your product is constructed, independent CPSIA testing of the finished item may also be required.

For what these certifications mean, see Understanding Wazoodle Fabric Certifications & Safety Standards. For how FDA food-contact certification works across the full FoodSAFE product line, see ProSoft FoodSAFE PUL: The Complete Guide to FDA Food-Contact Certified Waterproof Fabrics.

ProSoft Bamboo Fleece ECO-PUL Care: Washing, Drying, and What to Avoid

ProSoft Bamboo Fleece ECO-PUL maintains its Waterproof 300X Technology (300+ wash cycle durability) when care protocols protect the polyurethane film from chemical degradation and heat damage. The fabric arrives cut-and-sew ready — do not pre-wash before construction.

Washing

Wash in hot water (rated to 145–165°F) with a zero-residue liquid detergent. Add an extra rinse cycle to remove detergent residues that accumulate on the polyurethane film and reduce absorbency of the bamboo fleece face over time.

Pilling in fleece is normal — and intentional. Our fleece is manufactured without anti-pill chemical treatments. Anti-pill finishes use silicones, resins, or chemical crosslinkers that reduce breathability, compromise softness, and introduce environmental concerns — with effectiveness lasting only 5–30 washes. Some surface pilling is expected with wear and friction. Use a fabric shaver to restore the surface — never pull pills by hand, which damages the base fabric structure.

Drying

Dry on medium heat only — never exceed 130°F (50°C). Do not wring the fabric — wringing stress can damage the laminate bond. Warm iron on the fleece side only if needed — never iron the PUL film directly.

What to Avoid

Substances that permanently destroy waterproofing: Fabric softeners coat fibers, destroying both waterproofing and bamboo fleece absorbency — damage is irreversible. Chlorine bleach causes delamination. Vinegar, baking soda, and washing soda break down the laminate bond. Dryer sheets coat the film identically to liquid softeners. Non-chlorine oxygen bleach is acceptable sparingly for Standard (W-404) and FoodSAFE (W-685) — avoid on Silver (W-520) to preserve antimicrobial treatment.

Manufacturing Odor

New fabric may have a noticeable chemical smell from the high-temperature thermal bonding process. This dissipates after a single wash-dry cycle, or allow 1 day to 2 weeks of airing.
