ProSoft Premium Jersey ECO-PUL: The Complete Guide to Wazoodle's Smooth Performance Waterproof Fabric

What ProSoft® Premium Jersey ECO-PUL™ Is

ProSoft® Premium Jersey Waterproof ECO-PUL™ Fabric (W-385) is a waterproof polyurethane laminate that bonds 1 mil TPU film to a polyester jersey knit base using ECO-Thermal Bonding Technology (permanent film fusion independently tested 50% stronger than competitor US-made PUL).

The jersey face provides a smooth, refined textile surface — softer and more polished than standard interlock-based PUL — while the reverse presents the waterproof polyurethane barrier.

Where Premium Jersey ECO-PUL fits: At 300 GSM and 0.019" thickness, this sits at the heavier end of Wazoodle's surface-laminated ECO-PUL range while maintaining a thin profile. The jersey face delivers a smooth surface hand suited to products where the fabric-side appearance and feel matter — menstrual pad backing visible during use, changing pad covers, and small home goods like coasters. For fleece-faced alternatives with non-slip grip and absorbency, see ProSoft® Premium Fleece ECO-PUL™. For thinner barrier-only options, the standard 1 mil ECO-PUL variants offer lighter weights.

The fabric shares the rated ProSoft waterproof barrier — rated at more than 100× any normal use pressure with breathability matched to resting body moisture output — plus Waterproof 300X Technology (rated integrity through 300+ wash cycles) and SilentFlex Technology (quiet, no plastic rustling). The 85% polyester / 15% polyurethane composition reflects the jersey knit base. 10% crosswise stretch with minimal lengthwise stretch. Requires seam sealing tape over all sewn seams.

Made in USA by AKAS Tex. CPSIA certified for children's products. Forever Chemicals-Free verified (no PFAS, PFOA, PFOS, BPA, or phthalates). UPF 25–35 (lighter colors 25, darker colors 35 — lower than the 50+ rating on most ProSoft variants).

For how ECO-PUL compares to CORE PUL, MediPUL, and FoodSAFE PUL, see Choosing Between ProSoft PUL Types (DF-005).

Working With ProSoft® Premium Jersey ECO-PUL™

ProSoft® Premium Jersey ECO-PUL™ uses the same core PUL sewing techniques as the standard ECO-PUL line. The jersey knit base may curl toward the face side during handling — a normal knit characteristic that flattens during sewing.

Machine Setup & Sewing Techniques
  • Presser foot: A Teflon/glide foot or walking foot prevents the PUL film surface from sticking. Alternatives: sew through wax paper, or dab sewing machine oil on the foot.
  • Needles: Use ballpoint/jersey needles for the knit base. Sharp needles slice yarns and create enlarged holes that leak.
  • Thread: Use quality polyester thread (Tex-27 or 65/2 grade). Cotton and rayon threads wick moisture through needle holes.
  • Cutting: Cut with the jersey (fabric) side up. Mark on the jersey side to avoid damaging the film.
Seam Sealing Heat-activated seam sealing tape must be applied over all sewn seams. Apply with warm iron on the jersey fabric side only — never iron the polyurethane film side directly.

Critical: Every needle hole through the polyurethane film permanently compromises waterproofing. Pin only in seam allowances and seal every sewn seam with heat-activated tape.

No pre-washing is required — the fabric ships cut-and-sew ready. Manufacturing odor from thermal bonding dissipates after a wash-dry cycle or 1–2 days of airing.

Pairing ProSoft® Premium Jersey ECO-PUL™ With Other Fabrics

ProSoft® Premium Jersey ECO-PUL™ serves as the waterproof barrier layer in multi-layer constructions, with the smooth jersey face oriented toward the user or outward.

Absorbent & Surface Partners

Proven Layer Stacks
  • Cloth diaper cover: Absorbent insert (Zorb® or prefold) → ProSoft Premium Jersey ECO-PUL (W-385) as outer waterproof cover with smooth jersey face outward.
  • Reusable menstrual pad: Absorbent core → ProSoft Premium Jersey ECO-PUL (W-385) as backing layer with smooth jersey visible.
  • Waterproof coasters: ProSoft Premium Jersey ECO-PUL (W-385) as the bottom waterproof layer with jersey face up for a finished textile appearance — customer-validated for this application.

ProSoft® Premium Jersey ECO-PUL™ Applications

ProSoft® Premium Jersey ECO-PUL™ is suited to applications where the smooth jersey surface provides an aesthetic or functional advantage over standard interlock PUL.

Cloth diaper covers and training pants use the waterproof barrier with the smooth jersey exterior providing a refined look and feel under clothing. The 10% crosswise stretch aids fitting.

Menstrual pad backing benefits from the smooth jersey surface that sits comfortably against underwear fabric without catching or snagging.

Small home goods are customer-validated — coasters using the waterproof layer to protect surfaces from condensation, and Christmas gift projects where presentation and functionality combine. The smooth jersey finish provides a more polished look than raw PUL in visible applications.

Incontinence products and medical underpads use the breathable waterproof barrier with 300+ wash cycle institutional durability.

Content Note — Food Storage: Premium Jersey ECO-PUL (W-385) does not carry FDA food-contact certification. For food storage applications requiring certified food-safe waterproof fabric, see the FoodSAFE PUL variants (W-396, W-512, W-392, W-397).

Caring for ProSoft® Premium Jersey ECO-PUL™

Washing

Hot water safe (145–165°F). Use zero-residue liquid detergent with an extra rinse cycle. Non-chlorine oxygen bleach is acceptable sparingly.

Drying

Medium heat only — never exceed 130°F (50°C).

Avoid completely

Fabric softeners (permanently destroy waterproofing), chlorine bleach (causes delamination), vinegar and baking soda (break down the laminate bond), dryer sheets. Avoid prolonged direct sunlight — UV causes yellowing and cracking of polyurethane.

Ironing

Warm iron on jersey fabric side only if needed — never iron the polyurethane film side.
