ProSoft CORE PUL Multi-Face Laminates: The Complete Guide to Wazoodle's Dual-Face Waterproof Fabrics

What ProSoft CORE PUL Multi-Face Laminates Are

ProSoft CORE PUL Multi-Face Laminates are a family of waterproof barrier fabrics that use CORE PUL three-layer construction — embedding a 1 mil TPU waterproof membrane between two different textile face fabrics using ECO-Thermal Bonding Technology (permanent film fusion independently tested 50% stronger than competitor US-made PUL). Each variant in this 8-fabric lineup pairs a different combination of face fabrics around the same embedded waterproof core, creating purpose-built fabrics where the face-fabric combination determines the application while the waterproof barrier remains identical.

Where CORE PUL Multi-Face Laminates fit: These are the consumer-grade CORE PUL options in the ProSoft line, offering dual textile surfaces with no film-side handling restrictions. The face-fabric pairing — not the waterproof layer — defines each variant. Lightweight polyester faces for thin barrier applications, organic cotton for natural-fiber requirements, fleece and terry for integrated absorbency. For medical-grade CORE PUL with Level 4 barrier certification, see ProSoft MediCORE PUL. For all-in-one absorbent soaker systems under the Zorb brand, see Zorb 4D Stay Dry Dimple CORE PUL and Zorb 4D Organic Cotton Dimple CORE PUL.

All 8 variants share a waterproof barrier rated at more than 100× any normal use pressure with breathability matched to resting body moisture output, Waterproof 300X Technology (rated integrity through 300+ wash cycles), SilentFlex Technology (quiet operation), and TPU Barrier Fusion Technology (permanent film-to-fabric bond). The embedded membrane means both surfaces are textile — no exposed film side, no orientation restrictions. Every variant requires seam sealing tape over all sewn seams.

Made in USA by AKAS Tex. CPSIA certified for children's products. Forever Chemicals-Free verified (no PFAS, PFOA, PFOS, BPA, or phthalates).

The ProSoft CORE PUL Multi-Face Lineup

ProSoft CORE PUL Multi-Face Laminates span 8 variants from 180 GSM to 685 GSM. All share the same waterproof barrier, breathability, Waterproof 300X durability (300+ wash cycles), and UPF 50+ UV protection. They differ in face-fabric combination, weight, thickness, stretch, and whether absorbent or wicking functionality is built in.

Polyester Barrier — Lightest Weight
  • ProSoft Lightweight Waterproof CORE PUL Fabric (W-650): The lightest CORE variant. 180 GSM, 54"–56" width, 0.021" thickness. ProCool Lightweight polyester on both sides. Minimal stretch. Barrier-only — no absorbency. Accessible for first-time PUL users. Validated for cloth diaper covers, furniture protection, and boat covers.
  • ProSoft Interlock / Lightweight Waterproof CORE PUL Fabric (W-417): 250 GSM, 54"–56" width, 0.029" thickness. The interlock face provides a smoother, more refined surface than lightweight polyester — suited to mattress protectors and products where surface feel matters.
Organic Cotton — Natural Fiber Surfaces
  • ProSoft 100% Organic Cotton Waterproof CORE PUL Silver Fabric (W-641): 375 GSM, 54"–56" width, 0.043" thickness. Organic cotton interlock face with organic cotton jersey lite back. \*\*Silver Plus antimicrobial treatment\*\* (the only antimicrobial variant in this lineup). 5% width stretch, 1–2% shrinkage. US Cotton Trust Protocol verified. Validated for nursing pads, furniture protection, and cloth diaper covers.
  • ProSoft Organic Cotton Fleece / Jersey LITE Waterproof CORE PUL Fabric (W-419): 475 GSM, 50"–52" width (narrowest in lineup), 0.063" thickness. Organic cotton fleece face with ProECO Cotton Jersey LITE back. **Lycra Stretch-FIT Technology** for shape recovery. Organic cotton fleece provides absorbent capacity on the face side. 1–2% shrinkage.
  • ProSoft Stretch-FIT Organic Cotton Fleece Waterproof CORE PUL Fabric (W-285): 550 GSM super heavyweight, 54"–56" width, 0.115" thickness (thickest in lineup). Organic cotton fleece on both sides with **Lycra Stretch-FIT Technology**. Absorbent on both surfaces. 1–2% shrinkage. A complete waterproof system for products requiring organic certification with integrated absorbency.

Choosing Your ProSoft CORE PUL Multi-Face Laminate

ProSoft CORE PUL Multi-Face Laminates all share identical waterproof barrier performance — the decision is which face-fabric combination serves your application.

Application-Driven Selection

Do you need barrier-only without absorbency?
The Polyester Barrier variants (W-650 at 180 GSM, W-417 at 250 GSM) provide the thinnest, lightest CORE options for diaper covers, wet bags, mattress protectors, and linings where separate absorbent layers handle fluid capture.

Do you need organic cotton surfaces?
Three organic variants serve different weights: W-641 (375 GSM with Silver Plus antimicrobial), W-419 (475 GSM with organic fleece absorbency), and W-285 (550 GSM with organic fleece on both sides). Choose based on whether you need antimicrobial odor control, single-side absorbency, or absorbency from both surfaces.

Do you need absorbent + wicking in one fabric?
The Multi-Function Performance variants (W-418, W-576, W-422) each pair an absorbent face with a wicking or stay-dry back. W-422 at 685 GSM is the heaviest, replacing separate insert-and-cover diaper systems entirely. W-576 pairs bamboo absorbency with stay-dry ProTEC fleece.

Weight & Bulk Decisions Thin profile matters most: W-650 (180 GSM / 0.021") or W-417 (250 GSM / 0.029") — these work as hidden barrier layers without adding bulk.

All-in-one construction matters most: W-422 (685 GSM) integrates Zorb terry absorbency, waterproof barrier, and wicking mesh into a single fabric — but the ultra-heavyweight bulk limits it to diaper, underpad, and incontinence applications.

Single-layer organic products: W-285 (550 GSM) provides organic cotton absorbency on both sides with embedded waterproofing — a complete system for organic-certified products without additional layers.

Note that the W-422's ultra-heavyweight construction (685 GSM) is too heavy for apparel or projects requiring drape. Domestic sewing machines may struggle with multi-layer construction using the heavier variants (450+ GSM).

Working With ProSoft CORE PUL Multi-Face Laminates

ProSoft CORE PUL Multi-Face Laminates benefit from the CORE construction advantage: both surfaces are textile with no film-side restrictions. The wide weight range (180–685 GSM) means machine and needle requirements vary by variant.

Machine Setup & Sewing Techniques
  • Presser foot: Teflon/glide foot or walking foot recommended for all variants. Walking foot essential for the heavier variants (450+ GSM). Alternative: sew through wax paper or dab sewing machine oil on the foot.
  • Needles: Use ballpoint/jersey needles across all variants. Sizes 70/10–80/12 for Polyester Barrier variants (180–250 GSM); 80/12–90/14 for Organic Cotton variants (375–550 GSM); 90/14–100/16 for Multi-Function Performance variants (450–685 GSM). Sharp needles slice knit yarns and create leak points.
  • Thread: Use quality polyester thread (Tex-27 or 65/2 grade). Cotton and rayon threads wick moisture through needle holes.
  • Stitch length: 3.0–3.5 mm balances seam strength with minimal membrane perforation.
  • Cutting: Rotary cutter recommended, especially for heavier variants that dull scissors quickly. Edges don't ravel (knit construction). Use pattern weights instead of pins where possible — every needle hole penetrates the embedded membrane.
Seam Sealing Heat-activated seam sealing tape or enclosed construction methods required on all sewn seams. The embedded membrane means ironing can be done on either surface for tape application. Enclosed seam methods (French seams, binding, turned seams) provide an alternative where seams never contact fluids.

Critical: Embedded CORE construction does not eliminate the seam sealing requirement. Every needle hole penetrates the hidden waterproof membrane. Pin only in seam allowances, and seal all sewn seams with heat-activated tape or enclosed construction.

No pre-washing is required — all variants ship cut-and-sew ready. Organic cotton variants (W-641, W-419, W-285) will shrink 1–2% after first wash; factor this into pattern cutting. Manufacturing odor from thermal bonding dissipates after a wash-dry cycle or 1–2 days of airing.

Pairing ProSoft CORE PUL Multi-Face Laminates With Other Fabrics

ProSoft CORE PUL Multi-Face Laminates serve different roles depending on whether the variant is barrier-only or includes integrated absorbency.

Partners for Polyester Barrier Variants (W-650, W-417)

These variants provide waterproof barrier only — pair them with separate absorbent and surface layers.

  • Zorb Original: Absorbent core for rapid liquid capture. Position between a skin-contact surface and the CORE barrier variant. See Zorb Original: The Complete Guide to Wazoodle's Foundation Absorbent Fabric.
  • Zorb 3D Stay Dry: Stay-dry absorbent for direct skin contact. See Zorb 3D Stay Dry Dimple: The Complete Guide to Wazoodle's Premium Stay-Dry Absorbent Fabric.
  • ProCool Performance Interlock: Moisture-wicking skin-contact surface. See ProCool Performance Interlock: The Complete Guide to Wazoodle's Versatile Moisture-Wicking Fabric.
Construction Notes for Absorbent Variants (W-285, W-418, W-419, W-576, W-422)

These variants integrate absorbency, wicking, or stay-dry functionality into the face fabrics. Many can serve as complete single-fabric constructions:

W-422 (Zorb Terry / Mesh) functions as a complete all-in-one — absorbent terry face captures liquid, embedded membrane blocks penetration, wicking mesh back keeps skin dry. Can replace separate insert + cover systems.

W-576 (Bamboo / ProTEC) provides absorbent bamboo on one side and stay-dry fleece on the other — orient bamboo toward fluid source, ProTEC toward skin for stay-dry contact.

W-285 (OC Fleece / OC Fleece) absorbs on both surfaces — suited for products where fluid may contact either side.

For enhanced absorbency beyond what the integrated face fabrics provide, add a separate Zorb insert between the product and the CORE variant.

Proven Layer Stacks
  • Cloth diaper cover (barrier-only): Zorb absorbent insert → ProSoft Lightweight CORE PUL (W-650) as outer waterproof cover.
  • All-in-one cloth diaper: ProSoft Microfiber Loop Terry / Jersey Mesh CORE PUL (W-422) as single complete fabric — terry face against absorbent area, mesh toward skin.
  • Organic nursing pad: ProSoft 100% Organic Cotton CORE PUL Silver (W-641) as the waterproof center layer with antimicrobial odor control.
  • Mattress protector: ProSoft Interlock / Lightweight CORE PUL (W-417) — interlock face toward sleeper for smooth surface, lightweight back against mattress.
  • Incontinence underpad: ProSoft Designer Fleece CORE PUL (W-576) — bamboo fleece facing up for absorption, ProTEC fleece facing down for stay-dry contact.

ProSoft CORE PUL Multi-Face Applications

ProSoft CORE PUL Multi-Face Laminates are validated across cloth diapering, incontinence care, household protection, and specialty applications.

Cloth diapering is the primary application category. The Polyester Barrier variants (W-650, W-417) serve as outer covers over separate absorbent inserts. The Multi-Function variants (W-418, W-576, W-422) enable all-in-one and all-in-two systems where absorbency and waterproofing are integrated. First-time PUL users report the Lightweight CORE (W-650) as beginner-friendly with quality results at accessible prices.

Incontinence and menstrual products include reusable pads, period underwear, and protective undergarments. The organic cotton variants (W-641, W-419, W-285) suit products marketed on natural-fiber credentials. Silver Plus in W-641 provides antimicrobial odor control for extended-wear incontinence applications.

Household and furniture protection is customer-validated: mattress protectors using the interlock-face variant (W-417) for quiet, breathable bed protection; couch and chair covers using the organic cotton Silver variant (W-641); boat covers using the lightweight barrier (W-650).

Pet products include waterproof dog bedding (validated with W-285's organic cotton fleece construction) and pet changing pads.

Nursing pads use W-641's organic cotton surfaces with Silver Plus antimicrobial as the waterproof center layer between absorbent outer fabrics.

Caring for ProSoft CORE PUL Multi-Face Laminates

ProSoft CORE PUL Multi-Face Laminates maintain their Waterproof 300X Technology (300+ wash cycle durability) when care protocols protect the embedded TPU membrane.

Washing

Hot water is safe (up to 165°F) for all variants. Use zero-residue liquid detergent with an extra rinse cycle. Non-chlorine oxygen bleach is acceptable sparingly.

Drying

Medium heat only — never exceed 130°F (50°C). High heat damages the TPU membrane and can cause shrinkage that appears as delamination.

Avoid completely

Substances that permanently destroy waterproofing: Fabric softeners (permanently destroy waterproofing and breathability), chlorine bleach (degrades polyurethane), vinegar and baking soda (break down the laminate bond), dryer sheets (coat the membrane).

Organic cotton note

Variants with organic cotton faces (W-641, W-419, W-285) may show more surface wear than polyester faces over time due to natural fiber characteristics, but the embedded waterproof membrane remains protected by CORE construction.
