ProSoft Premium Fleece ECO-PUL: The Complete Guide to Wazoodle's ProCool-Based Waterproof Fabric

What ProSoft® Premium Fleece ECO-PUL™ Is

ProSoft® Premium Fleece Waterproof ECO-PUL™ is a dual-function waterproof laminate that bonds 1 mil TPU film to a polyester fleece base using ECO-Thermal Bonding Technology (permanent film fusion independently tested 50% stronger than competitor US-made PUL).

The fleece face provides two functional advantages over smooth PUL: a non-slip grip surface that prevents shifting during wear, and surface absorbency that captures liquid on contact before the waterproof barrier blocks strike-through. A single layer of Premium Fleece ECO-PUL replaces the traditional two-fabric sandwich of separate fleece + separate PUL.

Where Premium Fleece ECO-PUL fits: At 270 GSM and 0.052" thickness, this is noticeably heavier and thicker than standard surface-laminated ECO-PUL — the fleece face adds body and structure. The defining feature is the fleece grip: menstrual pad makers use it as backing that stays in place against underwear, and diaper cover makers use it as a non-slip outer shell. Available in two variants — standard and Silver Plus antimicrobial. For smooth jersey-faced PUL without grip or absorbency, see ProSoft® Premium Jersey ECO-PUL™. For CORE PUL with fleece on both sides, see ProSoft® CORE ECO-PUL™ Multi-Face Laminates.

Both variants share the rated ProSoft waterproof barrier — rated at more than 100× any normal use pressure with breathability matched to resting body moisture output — plus Waterproof 300X Technology (rated integrity through 300+ wash cycles) and SilentFlex Technology (quiet operation). The 80% polyester / 20% polyurethane composition reflects the fleece base. 5% crosswise stretch with minimal lengthwise stretch. UPF 50+. Requires seam sealing tape over all sewn seams.

Made in USA by AKAS Tex. CPSIA certified for children's products. Forever Chemicals-Free verified (no PFAS, PFOA, PFOS, BPA, or phthalates).

The ProSoft® Premium Fleece ECO-PUL™ Lineup

Both variants share identical construction, weight, dimensions, and waterproof performance. They differ only in antimicrobial treatment.

Standard & Silver Plus Variants

Choose Silver Plus (W-678) when the product will be worn against the body for extended periods and odor control between washes matters — menstrual pads, incontinence products, diaper covers. Choose Standard (W-386) when antimicrobial treatment is unnecessary — mattress protectors, pet bed covers, raincoats, home goods.

All measurements are subject to ±10% manufacturing tolerance. Your results may vary between production runs.

Working With ProSoft® Premium Fleece ECO-PUL™

ProSoft® Premium Fleece ECO-PUL™ is thicker than standard PUL (0.052" vs. typical 0.013"–0.019") and the fleece face adds bulk that affects sewing. Customers report it handles easily despite the extra weight.

Machine Setup & Sewing Techniques
  • Presser foot: A Teflon/glide foot or walking foot prevents the PUL film surface from sticking. Walking foot recommended for even feeding of the laminate layers.
  • Needles: Use heavy-duty ballpoint/jersey needles for the knit fleece base. The 0.052" thickness causes faster needle wear — change needles more frequently than with standard PUL. Sharp needles slice yarns and create enlarged holes that leak.
  • Thread: Use quality polyester thread (Tex-27 or 65/2 grade). Cotton and rayon threads wick moisture through needle holes.
  • Cutting: Cut fleece pile direction consistently across all pieces for uniform appearance. The heavier construction requires firmer cutting pressure than standard PUL.
Seam Sealing Heat-activated seam sealing tape must be applied over all sewn seams. Apply with warm iron on the fleece fabric side only — never iron the polyurethane film side directly.

Critical: Every needle hole through the polyurethane film permanently compromises waterproofing. Pin only in seam allowances and seal every sewn seam with heat-activated tape.

No pre-washing is required — the fabric ships cut-and-sew ready. Manufacturing odor from thermal bonding dissipates after a wash-dry cycle or 1–2 days of airing.

Pairing ProSoft® Premium Fleece ECO-PUL™ With Other Fabrics

ProSoft® Premium Fleece ECO-PUL™ combines absorbency and waterproofing in a single layer, reducing the need for multi-fabric constructions.

Absorbent & Surface Partners
  • Zorb® Original: Additional absorbent core when the fleece surface alone doesn't provide sufficient capacity. See Zorb® Original: The Complete Guide to Wazoodle's Foundation Absorbent Fabric.
  • Zorb® 3D Stay Dry: Stay-dry absorbent for the skin-contact side when the fleece face is oriented outward. See Zorb® 3D Stay Dry Dimple: The Complete Guide to Wazoodle's Premium Stay-Dry Absorbent Fabric.
  • ProCool® Performance Interlock: Moisture-wicking skin-contact surface. See ProCool® Performance Interlock: The Complete Guide to Wazoodle's Versatile Moisture-Wicking Fabric.
Proven Layer Stacks
  • Reusable menstrual pad: Absorbent core (Zorb®) → ProSoft Premium Fleece ECO-PUL Silver (W-678) as backing layer — fleece face against underwear provides non-slip grip, PUL film prevents strike-through, Silver Plus controls odor.
  • Cloth diaper cover: Absorbent insert → ProSoft Premium Fleece ECO-PUL (W-386) as outer cover — fleece exterior provides non-slip grip under clothing.
  • Outdoor electronics cover: ProSoft Premium Fleece ECO-PUL (W-386) as single-layer short-term weather protection — customer-validated for covering outdoor soundbars and televisions.

ProSoft® Premium Fleece ECO-PUL™ Applications

ProSoft® Premium Fleece ECO-PUL™ is validated across menstrual products, cloth diapering, light weather protection, and specialty applications. Customers report the fabric is comfortable enough to "forget it's there" despite waterproof properties.

Reusable menstrual pads are the primary customer-validated application. The fleece backing provides grip that keeps pads positioned during wear — a functional advantage over smooth PUL that can shift against underwear fabric. The Silver Plus variant (W-678) adds antimicrobial odor control for extended wear.

Cloth diaper covers and training pants use the fleece-face grip to prevent the cover from shifting during active movement. The breathable waterproof barrier prevents heat buildup against skin.
Light rain protection is customer-validated — raincoats and dog coats using the waterproof barrier for short-term weather exposure. Not recommended for extended outdoor use as UV degrades the polyurethane film.

Outdoor electronics covers are customer-validated — custom covers for outdoor soundbars and televisions providing short-term waterproof protection.

Medical and healthcare applications include nurse's bag construction (customer-validated) and institutional underpads with 300+ wash cycle durability.

Caring for ProSoft® Premium Fleece ECO-PUL™

Washing

Hot water safe (145–165°F). Use zero-residue liquid detergent with an extra rinse cycle. Non-chlorine oxygen bleach is acceptable sparingly.

Drying

Line drying recommended — machine drying causes seam fuzziness and can affect the fleece finish over time. If machine drying is necessary, use medium heat only and never exceed 130°F (50°C).

Avoid completely

Fabric softeners (permanently destroy waterproofing and, for W-678, antimicrobial properties), chlorine bleach (causes delamination), vinegar and baking soda (break down the laminate bond), dryer sheets.

Ironing

Warm iron on fleece fabric side only if needed — never iron the polyurethane film side.

Pilling in fleece is normal — and intentional. Our fleece is manufactured without anti-pill chemical treatments. Anti-pill finishes use silicones, resins, or chemical crosslinkers that reduce breathability, compromise softness, and introduce environmental concerns — with effectiveness lasting only 5–30 washes. Some surface pilling is expected with wear and friction. Use a fabric shaver to restore the surface — never pull pills by hand, which damages the base fabric structure.
