ProECO Bamboo Lining Fleece: The Complete Guide to Wazoodle's Bamboo Lining Fabric

What ProECO Bamboo Lining Fleece Is and Why It Matters

ProECO Bamboo Lining Fleece is a double-sided knit fleece manufactured by AKAS Tex with a construction unlike any other fabric in the ProECO collection — two different material systems in one fabric. The face is soft, double-napped fleece made from 70% bamboo viscose and 30% organic cotton. The back is smooth, moisture-wicking 100% polyester. This dual-system construction exists for one purpose: stay-dry liners in cloth diapers, reusable menstrual pads, and incontinence products.

The bamboo/cotton fleece face sits against skin, providing the softness and comfort expected from natural fiber. The polyester back doesn't absorb — it transports moisture away from skin through the lining into the absorbent core beneath (Bamboo Fleece, French Terry, or Loop Terry). This keeps the surface feeling dry against the body while absorbent layers handle liquid capture underneath. Customers confirm cooling properties that make this especially valuable for hot-weather baby products.

At just 164 GSM and 0.024" thick, this is one of the thinnest fabrics in the bamboo collection — designed to add stay-dry function without bulk in layered diaper and pad constructions. Ready-AbZORB processing delivers immediate performance and reduces shrinkage to just 2–5% (vs. 8–12% for untreated natural fiber fleece) — critical for consistent fit in production diaper sewing.

The family includes two variants: Standard (W-255) and Silver (W-286, with Silver Plus antimicrobial odor control). Both hold CPSIA certification, UPF 50+ sun protection, and Forever Chemicals-Free verification. Made in USA.

The Complete ProECO Bamboo Lining Fleece Lineup

ProECO Bamboo Lining Fleece includes two variants sharing the same dual-system construction — bamboo/cotton fleece face with polyester wicking back.

ProECO Bamboo Lining Fleece — 164 GSM (0.024" Thick)
  • W-255 ProECO Bamboo Lining Fleece: The foundation variant. 164 GSM with 10%/10% stretch, 60–62" width. Double-napped bamboo fleece face, smooth polyester wicking back. Customers describe it as "super soft" with cooling properties valued for baby applications in hot weather. Handles easily during sewing — accepts hand-dyeing well for color customization. Pre-wash for 2–4% width and 4–5% length shrinkage.
  • W-286 ProECO Bamboo Lining Fleece Silver: Same dual-system construction with Silver Plus antimicrobial — 99.5% effectiveness through 50+ wash cycles. Adds odor control for cloth diapers, menstrual pads, and incontinence linings where freshness between changes matters. Customer-validated for international humanitarian use — sourced for menstrual pad production sent to Kenya.
Key Concept — Two Different Materials in One Fabric: ProECO Bamboo Lining Fleece is not a single-material construction dyed or finished differently on each side. The face and back are literally different fiber systems — natural bamboo/cotton fleece on one side, synthetic polyester on the other. The bamboo face absorbs and feels soft; the polyester back wicks and stays smooth. Orient the bamboo face toward skin and the polyester back toward your absorbent core. Getting this orientation wrong reverses the entire moisture-management function.

All fabric specifications may vary ±10% due to textile industry manufacturing standards.

Choosing Your ProECO Bamboo Lining Fleece: Standard vs. Silver

Choose by Treatment
  • W-255 Standard: For cloth diaper liners, facial wipes, nursing pad surfaces, and pet bedding where antimicrobial protection isn't needed. Most cost-effective option for high-volume diaper production.
  • W-286 Silver: For applications where odor control extends wear time between changes — cloth diapers (ammonia control), menstrual pads, and incontinence linings. Essential where products will be worn for extended periods before washing.

Orientation matters: The bamboo fleece face (soft, fuzzy) goes against skin. The polyester back (smooth, slick) goes against the absorbent core. Mark the smooth polyester side clearly during cutting — in finished products, getting the sides reversed eliminates the stay-dry function entirely.

Working With ProECO Bamboo Lining Fleece: Sewing and Construction Guide

ProECO Bamboo Lining Fleece handles like standard knit fleece with one critical difference — every piece must be oriented with the correct side facing the correct direction.

Cutting and Layout
  • Pre-wash in hot water if additional shrinkage control needed — though Ready-AbZORB minimizes dimensional change to 2–5% total. Test a small piece first to verify final measurements.
  • Mark the polyester side immediately: The smooth polyester back and soft bamboo face can be difficult to distinguish in unfinished pieces. Label every piece after cutting.
  • Pile direction: Cut all pieces with nap running the same direction for consistent appearance and hand feel on the bamboo face.
  • Hand-dyeing: Customers confirm the fabric accepts hand-dyeing well — dye before construction if custom colors are needed.
Sewing Recommendations
  • Needle: Ballpoint or stretch needle, size 75/11 or 80/12 for this lightweight knit construction.
  • Thread: Polyester thread recommended for durability through repeated hot washing in diaper and pad applications.
  • Edges: Finish with serging, binding, or enclosed seams to prevent fraying. Edges may curl slightly — stabilize with stay-stitching.
  • Ease of handling: Customers across multiple applications report the fabric is straightforward to work with during construction — no specialized handling challenges.

Common Applications for ProECO Bamboo Lining Fleece

ProECO Bamboo Lining Fleece fills the stay-dry liner role in layered absorbent product construction — the thin layer between skin and the absorbent core that keeps the surface feeling dry.

  • Cloth diaper stay-dry liners — The primary application. Internal layer against baby skin that wicks moisture through to absorbent cores (Bamboo Fleece or French Terry). Ready-AbZORB eliminates pre-washing for production efficiency — commercial diaper sewers value the immediate performance and minimal shrinkage (2–5% vs. 8–12% for untreated fleece) for consistent fit across production runs. Cooling properties particularly valued for hot-weather baby products — customers specifically note temperature regulation as an advantage during warm months.
  • Reusable menstrual pad top layers — Soft bamboo face against skin with moisture wicking to absorbent layers beneath. Silver variant adds odor control for extended wear. Customer-validated for both personal use and commercial pad production, including international humanitarian distribution to Kenya for menstrual pad manufacturing.
  • Facial wipes and baby wipes — Absorbent with soft texture for gentle skin contact. The thin 0.024" profile creates wipes that fold and store compactly. Low-maintenance care requirements make these suitable for frequent washing without performance degradation.
  • Nursing pad surfaces — Bamboo face against breast tissue for comfort; polyester back wicks milk to absorbent core, keeping the contact surface drier between feedings.
  • Pet bedding and care items — Soft surface with easy-to-launder durability. The polyester back provides a smooth grip surface against pet bed inserts.

Pairing ProECO Bamboo Lining Fleece With Other Wazoodle Fabrics

ProECO Bamboo Lining Fleece is designed to work as part of a multi-layer system — it is the stay-dry liner, not the absorbent core or waterproof shell.

Layered Product Builds
  • Cloth diapers: Bamboo Lining Fleece (stay-dry, against skin) → Zorb (absorbent core) → ProSoft ECO-PUL (waterproof shell).
  • Menstrual pads: Bamboo Lining Fleece (stay-dry top layer) → Zorb (absorbent middle) → ProSoft ECO-PUL (waterproof backing).
  • Nursing pads: Bamboo Lining Fleece (skin contact) → Zorb (absorbent layer) → ProSoft ECO-PUL (leak barrier).

Your results may vary based on product design and construction.
For complete build guidance on specific projects, see the relevant Application Discovery articles.

ProECO Bamboo Lining Fleece Certifications

For what these certifications require and mean for your products, see the relevant Features Discovery articles.

ProECO Bamboo Lining Fleece Care

ProECO Bamboo Lining Fleece is built for the demanding wash cycles of cloth diapering — hot water, frequent laundering, hundreds of cycles over the product's lifetime.

Washing

Wash hot water with standard detergent — hot washing supports sanitation for diaper and menstrual pad applications. For Silver variants, use zero-residue detergent with an extra rinse cycle to preserve antimicrobial longevity. Performance improves slightly over the first 3–5 washes as remaining organic processing residues rinse completely.

Pilling in fleece is normal — and intentional. Our fleece is manufactured without anti-pill chemical treatments. Anti-pill finishes use silicones, resins, or chemical crosslinkers that reduce breathability, compromise softness, and introduce environmental concerns — with effectiveness lasting only 5–30 washes. Some surface pilling is expected with wear and friction. Use a fabric shaver to restore the surface — never pull pills by hand, which damages the base fabric structure.

Drying

Tumble dry medium heat. Hot iron acceptable if needed. The polyester back retains 100% strength when wet, providing dimensional stability even though the bamboo face loses 30–50% strength — handle gently during washing but the fabric holds together.

What to Avoid

Never use fabric softeners or dryer sheets — they coat fibers, destroying both the wicking function of the polyester back AND the absorbency of the bamboo face. For Silver variants, fabric softeners also permanently destroy antimicrobial effectiveness. Never use chlorine bleach — oxygen bleach is acceptable.
