ProECO Organic Linen: The Complete Guide to Wazoodle's Organic Linen Fabric
What ProECO Organic Linen Is and Why It Matters
ProECO Organic Linen is a 100% linen woven fabric manufactured by AKAS Tex — the only woven construction and the only linen fiber in the entire Wazoodle collection. At 200 GSM with minimal stretch in either direction, this fabric provides the structured body and natural cooling that knit constructions cannot deliver. Where every other ProECO fabric is a knit designed for stretch and body conformity, Organic Linen is built for shape, drape, and architectural garment construction.
Linen's hollow fiber structure absorbs up to 20% of its weight before feeling damp while actively wicking moisture away from skin, creating a natural cooling effect in warm conditions. The fiber delivers 20–30% greater tensile strength than cotton and softens progressively with repeated washing — starting crisp and evolving into supple, broken-in texture over time. Characteristic wrinkling is inherent to linen's low elasticity, either embraced as natural aesthetic or managed through damp ironing.
The family includes two variants — Standard and Silver (antimicrobial odor control). Both hold CPSIA certification, UPF 50+ sun protection, and Forever Chemicals-Free verification. ProECO SustainSafe (chemical-free manufacturing) processing is standard. Made in USA.

The Complete ProECO Organic Linen Lineup
ProECO Organic Linen includes two variants sharing the same 100% linen woven construction — differentiated only by antimicrobial treatment.
Key Concept — Woven, Not Knit: ProECO Organic Linen is the only woven fabric in the Wazoodle collection. Unlike knits (which stretch and conform), woven linen provides rigid structure with minimal give. Edges fray rather than curl. Seams behave differently. If you're accustomed to working with ProECO's knit fabrics, linen requires a different approach at the cutting table and sewing machine.
All fabric specifications may vary ±10% due to textile industry manufacturing standards.
Choosing Your ProECO Organic Linen: Standard vs. Silver
Both ProECO Organic Linen variants share identical construction — 200 GSM, 100% linen, 52" width, UPF 50+, and the same natural breathability and strength. Your only decision is whether antimicrobial odor control is needed.
Linen wrinkles — by nature, not by defect: Both variants wrinkle readily due to linen's low elasticity. This is a fundamental fiber characteristic, not a fabric quality issue. Plan for applications where natural linen texture is desirable, or manage appearance through damp ironing.

Working With ProECO Organic Linen: Sewing and Construction Guide
ProECO Organic Linen handles differently from every other fabric in the ProECO collection because it is woven rather than knit. There is no stretch to accommodate, no edge curl to manage — but there is fraying to control and a crisp hand that softens only after washing. Beginner-friendly for sewers experienced with woven fabrics.
Pairing ProECO Organic Linen With Other Wazoodle Fabrics
ProECO Organic Linen functions as a structured outer shell or standalone fabric rather than a layering component. Its woven rigidity and minimal stretch make it complementary to softer knit linings and absorbent inner layers.
Your results may vary based on product design and construction. For complete build guidance on specific projects, see the relevant Application Discovery articles.
Common Applications for ProECO Organic Linen
ProECO Organic Linen fills the structured, breathable, natural-fiber role that no knit fabric in the collection can provide — applications where body, cooling, and durability matter more than stretch and conformity.
- Structured apparel — Pants, jackets, skirts, and dresses where linen's natural body creates garment shape without interfacing. The 200 GSM weight provides substance without heaviness, and the cooling effect of linen's hollow fiber structure makes these garments comfortable in warm conditions.
- Beach and resort wear — Small businesses focused on ethical production choose this fabric for sarong-style coverups and beach garments. The combination of organic certification, UPF 50+ sun protection, and natural cooling makes it well-suited for resort collections.
- Dresses — Customers validate the weight and drape for dress construction, where linen provides structure that flows without clinging.
- Home textiles — Upholstery, window treatments, and slip covers leveraging linen's 20–30% greater strength than cotton for high-use durability. Silver variant (W-596) adds antimicrobial freshness for frequently used furnishings.
- Bedding accessories — Pillow shams and duvet covers where natural breathability supports temperature regulation during sleep. Linen's progressive softening creates increasingly comfortable bedding over time.
- Face coverings — Silver variant validated by customers for mask construction, combining linen's natural breathability with antimicrobial protection.

ProECO Organic Linen Certifications
Both ProECO Organic Linen variants hold the same core safety certifications through ProECO SustainSafe (chemical-free manufacturing) processing.
Fabric vs. Finished Product: CPSIA certification of the fabric does not automatically certify your finished product. Finished children's products may require independent testing depending on your product category and sales channels.
For what these certifications require and mean for your products, see the relevant Features Discovery articles.
ProECO Organic Linen Care
ProECO Organic Linen is one of the most care-tolerant fabrics in the ProECO collection — linen fiber withstands hot water and alkaline laundering conditions without degradation. The fabric softens and improves with every wash cycle, evolving from initial crispness into supple, broken-in character.
Washing
Wash medium temperature with standard detergent. Linen tolerates hot water and alkaline conditions safely, though medium temperature optimizes long-term fiber life.
Drying
Tumble dry medium heat. Linen tolerates heat well — no elastic fibers to degrade. Remove promptly if wrinkle management matters. Iron while damp for crispest results; steam pressing works effectively.
What to Avoid
Never use fabric softeners — they coat linen fibers, destroying the natural breathability and moisture management that make linen valuable. For Silver variant W-596, fabric softeners also permanently destroy antimicrobial effectiveness. Never use chlorine bleach on the Silver variant — it degrades the Silver Plus treatment. Oxygen bleach is acceptable for both variants. Avoid prolonged direct sun exposure which degrades linen fiber over extended periods.
Pre-Wash Requirements
Pre-wash before cutting — expect 4–5% shrinkage in both directions. Consistent shrinkage in width and length makes pattern adjustment straightforward compared to knit fabrics with directional shrinkage differences.
ProECO Organic Linen Specifications
Both ProECO Organic Linen variants share identical construction — 100% linen woven at 200 GSM. The Silver variant adds antimicrobial treatment to the same base.
