Zorb Microfiber Loop Terry: The Complete Guide to Wazoodle's High-Capacity Microfiber Absorbent Fabric

What Zorb Microfiber Loop Terry Is and Why It Matters

Zorb Microfiber Loop Terry is a super-absorbent 100% polyester fabric family featuring loop terry construction engineered with Hydro-Dual Fiber Technology (rapid liquid capture and three-dimensional moisture distribution). The raised loop surface increases effective surface area for liquid contact while creating capillary channels that transport moisture throughout the fabric thickness — absorbing up to 10 times the fabric's weight and capturing liquid 20× faster than bamboo, cotton, or hemp knits.

What separates Zorb Microfiber Loop Terry from other Zorb families is its construction type: loop terry rather than dimple knit. The loops create lofted, cushioned texture with fast initial capture speed, while the flat back provides a smooth surface for layering against other fabrics. All variants are single-sided — loops on one face, flat back on the other. This is a standalone absorbent fabric requiring a separate waterproof barrier (ProSoft ECO-PUL or similar) for leak protection.

The family spans three weight tiers — Standard, Heavy Duty, and Ultra Heavy Duty — with FoodSAFE variants available at the Standard and Heavy Duty tiers. All variants feature Ready-AbZORB Technology (full absorption from first use without conditioning washes), are CPSIA certified, and are manufactured Forever Chemicals-Free (no PFAS, BPA, phthalates). 100% polyester construction. Made in USA by AKAS Tex.

The Complete Zorb Microfiber Loop Terry Lineup: Standard, Heavy Duty, and Ultra Heavy Duty

Zorb Microfiber Loop Terry comes in five variants across three weight tiers that differ significantly in weight, loop density, and construction character. The primary decision is weight tier (lofty coverage vs. dense capacity) with FoodSAFE treatment available for food-contact applications.

Key Concept — Lighter Does Not Mean Thinner: Standard (200 GSM) is the LOFTIEST variant at 0.490" thick — tall, open loops maximize surface area and initial capture speed. Heavy Duty (515 GSM) and Ultra Heavy Duty (680 GSM) are DENSER with shorter, tighter loops at 0.066" and 0.086" respectively. Weight tier determines loop density and total capacity, not thickness in the way most fabrics work.
Standard — 200 GSM / 0.490" Thickness (2 Variants)
  • W-439 — Zorb Microfiber Loop Terry: The loftiest variant. 60–62" width, 15% bidirectional stretch, 0.490" thickness from tall open loops. Absorbs 8× its weight with maximum surface area for rapid initial liquid contact. Cushioned texture suitable for cleaning cloths, athletic moisture zones, and lightweight absorbent layers. Available in White.
  • W-460 — Zorb FoodSAFE Microfiber Loop Terry: Standard construction with FDA food-contact certification. For products requiring absorbency with food-contact safety compliance.
Heavy Duty — 515 GSM / 0.066" Thickness (2 Variants)
  • W-350 — Zorb Microfiber Loop Terry Heavy Duty: Dense construction with shorter loops. 62–65" width, 5% width stretch, minimal length stretch. Absorbs 8× its weight in under 2 seconds — 20× faster than bamboo, cotton, or hemp. Customer-validated for cloth diaper cores, reusable menstrual pads, incontinence products, burp cloths, unpaper towels, and travel towels. Available in White.
  • W-462 — Zorb FoodSAFE Microfiber Loop Terry Heavy Duty: Heavy Duty construction with FDA food-contact certification. For food-contact applications requiring higher absorption capacity.
Ultra Heavy Duty — 680 GSM / 0.086" Thickness (1 Variant)
  • W-387 — Zorb Microfiber Loop Terry Ultra Heavy Duty: Maximum-capacity construction at nearly 3.4× the weight of Standard. 62–65" width, 5% width stretch. Absorbs 8× its weight in under 2 seconds. Densest loop structure for applications requiring the highest absolute liquid retention per layer — cloth diaper cores for heavy wetters, heavy-duty cleaning towels, pet training pads. Available in White.

All fabric specifications may vary ±10% due to textile industry manufacturing standards.

Choosing Your Zorb Microfiber Loop Terry: Weight Tier and Treatment Guide

All Zorb Microfiber Loop Terry variants share Hydro-Dual Fiber Technology (rapid liquid capture), loop terry construction, Ready-AbZORB processing (immediate absorption), 100% polyester fiber content, and CPSIA certification. Selection involves two decisions: weight tier and treatment.

Step 1: Choose Your Weight Tier
  • Standard (200 GSM, 0.490") for lightweight loft and maximum stretch: The tallest loops with 15% bidirectional stretch create the most flexible construction — cleaning cloths, athletic sweatbands, lightweight diaper boosters, and applications where loft and drape matter. Highest absorption-to-weight ratio at 10×. Choose when you need absorbency without dense weight.
  • Heavy Duty (515 GSM, 0.066") for most absorbent product construction: The workhorse tier. Dense enough for serious liquid management in cloth diapers, menstrual pads, incontinence products, and reusable towels while remaining sewable on home machines. Customer-validated across the widest range of applications. Choose as the default for absorbent product construction.
  • Ultra Heavy Duty (680 GSM, 0.086") for maximum single-layer capacity: The densest construction for applications demanding the most liquid retention per layer — heavy-wetter diaper cores, large pet training pads, heavy-duty cleaning applications. Choose only when maximum capacity justifies the additional weight and sewing difficulty.
Step 2: Choose Your Treatment
  • Standard: Base loop terry construction available at all three weight tiers. The most cost-effective option for applications not requiring food-contact certification.
  • FoodSAFE (Standard and Heavy Duty weights only): Adds FDA food-contact certification. Choose for products requiring absorbency with direct food-contact safety — reusable food service towels, commercial kitchen applications.

No antimicrobial option in this family. Zorb Microfiber Loop Terry does not include Silver Plus antimicrobial variants. For applications requiring built-in odor control — extended-wear incontinence products, overnight menstrual protection — consider Zorb 3D Stay Dry Dimple Silver or Zorb 3D Bamboo Dimple Silver families, which offer Silver Plus treatment.

Working With Zorb Microfiber Loop Terry: Sewing and Construction Guide

Zorb Microfiber Loop Terry sews on standard home machines with appropriate needle sizing. The primary construction considerations are managing loop snagging, preventing edge fraying, and protecting microfiber performance through proper finishing.

Cutting and Layout
  • Sharp rotary cutter required: Loops catch on dull blades and create ragged edges. Use a fresh rotary blade on a stable cutting surface for clean cuts through all weight tiers.
  • Immediate edge finishing: All variants fray readily at cut edges — loops unravel progressively from raw edges. Serge or finish all edges immediately after cutting, before any other handling or washing.
  • Loop orientation: Single-sided construction means loop direction matters. Plan pattern placement with loops facing the liquid source. Mark patterns on the flat backing side with washable markers to avoid snagging the loop face.
Sewing Techniques
  • Needles: Size 90/14 or larger universal needles for all weight tiers. Ultra Heavy Duty may require stepping up further due to 680 GSM density.
  • Seam construction: Serged seams recommended over traditional enclosed seams — reduces bulk, especially with Heavy Duty and Ultra Heavy Duty weights. Test stitch tension on scrap fabric to prevent puckering on heavyweight variants.
  • Hook-and-loop hazard: Keep all variants away from hook-side fasteners (Velcro hooks) during construction and laundering — hooks tear and permanently damage loops.
  • Shrinkage allowance: Plan for 1–2% length shrinkage across all variants. Width shrinkage is minimal.

Loops snag on everything. Zorb Microfiber Loop Terry's raised loops catch on rough surfaces, hook tape, pins, jewelry, and sharp objects during construction and use. Plan construction to fully enclose or protect loop surfaces in the finished product. Use fabric clips instead of pins for assembly.

Pairing Zorb Microfiber Loop Terry With Other Wazoodle Fabrics

Zorb Microfiber Loop Terry is a standalone absorbent fabric — it does NOT include waterproof protection. Every leak-proof product requires pairing with a separate waterproof barrier below and typically a skin-contact layer above.

Zorb Microfiber Loop Terry Care: Washing, Drying, and Protecting Microfiber Performance

Zorb Microfiber Loop Terry becomes softer and more absorbent with repeated washing as microfibers bloom and loops relax. Absorbency is engineered into the fiber structure — not a chemical treatment that washes out — so proper care maintains performance through hundreds of wash cycles.

Washing

Wash at medium temperature with liquid detergent only — use half the normal quantity. Powder detergent may not fully dissolve and lodges in microfiber loops, reducing absorbency over time. If absorbency diminishes, strip with hot water and a small amount of original blue Dawn dish soap to remove detergent buildup, body oils, and mineral deposits.

Drying

Dry on low heat only — polyester microfiber melts at high temperatures, destroying loop structure and absorbency. Hot water washing enhances performance over time, but high-heat drying damages it.

What to Avoid

Four things that permanently damage Zorb Microfiber Loop Terry:

  1. Fabric softeners and dryer sheets — coat microfibers with hydrophobic residue that permanently destroys absorbency.
  2. High heat drying — melts polyester fibers, flattening loops and destroying absorption structure.
  3. Bleach and chlorine — degrade fiber structure and reduce functional lifespan.
  4. Lint-producing wash companions — never wash with fleece, cotton terry, or other shedding fabrics. Microfiber loops trap and store lint particles, progressively reducing absorption.

Pre-Wash and Activation

Ready-AbZORB processed — full absorption from first use. Pre-washing is optional but recommended for hygiene in body-contact applications. If pre-washing, serge all open edges first — unfinished loops unravel in the washer. Expect 1–2% length shrinkage with minimal width change.
