Custom Print Program: Your Design on Our Fabrics

What Is the Custom Print Program?

The Custom Print Program lets you print your own designs on Wazoodle's stock polyester fabric bases — a collaboration between Wazoodle Fabrics (fabric manufacturing by AKAS Tex) and Yarrington Mills Corp. (design and printing). If you have artwork you want printed on a performance fabric, this program handles the full process from artwork preparation through printed fabric delivery.

How the Partnership Works
  • Wazoodle Fabrics / AKAS Tex: Manufactures the base fabric and handles all fabric-related questions, ordering, and payment
  • Yarrington Mills Corp.: Handles all design, artwork preparation, printing, and print-related payment
  • Print method: Disperse reactive dye sublimation/transfer on polyester fabrics — digital printing with no by-product waste
  • Your intellectual property: Once your design is printed, you own it. Wazoodle and Yarrington will not print your design for any other customer
Available Printable Fabric Bases
  • You can choose any Wazoodle stock polyester fabric that is designated as printable
  • The full list of printable fabrics is published on the Custom Print Program page on the website
  • Printable bases span multiple fabric families including Zorb®, ProCool®, ProSoft® PUL, and ProTEC® product lines
  • If a fabric you want is not listed in the program, it may not have been added yet — contact support@wazoodle.com to inquire

Dye sublimation works on polyester fabrics. The printing process requires polyester fiber content. For waterproof PUL fabrics, printing is done on the polyester base fabric first, then lamination is applied after — your finished fabric will be waterproof even though the strike-off sample is printed on unlaminated base fabric.

For dyeing existing fabrics in your custom color, see Custom Color Program. For developing entirely new fabric constructions, see New Fabric Development.

Minimum Order Quantity & Pricing

MOQ is 50 or 100 yards per print per fabric, depending on the fabric style — significantly lower than most custom print programs.

Pricing Structure
  • Fabric cost: Paid in full to Wazoodle Fabrics before fabric is shipped to Yarrington Mills for printing
  • Print cost: Quoted and invoiced separately by Yarrington Mills — paid in full before final shipping of printed fabric
  • Strike-off samples: Separate from fabric and print costs (see Strike-Off section below)
  • Artwork services (if needed): $50/hour (subject to change) billed in half-hour increments by Yarrington Mills, quoted before work begins
Finished Yardage Tolerance
  • Finished yardage may vary ±10% from the quantity ordered — the final invoice reflects actual finished quantity
  • First-quality yardage on the roll may also vary ±10% — account for this in your production planning
  • Printed goods will have approximately 1″ unprinted edge along each side of the fabric — this is standard and should be factored into yield planning

How the Process Works

The custom print process has three phases: Artwork, Strike-Off Approval, and Manufacturing. Wazoodle handles the fabric side, Yarrington Mills handles the print side, and you approve at each stage.

Step 1 — Submit Your Artwork
  • If you have print-ready artwork: Email support@wazoodle.com to start the fabric ordering process
  • If you need help selecting a fabric: Email support@wazoodle.com for guidance on the best printable base for your application
  • If you need artwork design help: Email subcs@yarringtonmills.com — Yarrington has full-time artists who can assist from concept to print-ready files
  • You must own the license or copyright for your artwork. If using stock art, you are responsible for purchasing the appropriate print license for merchandise
Step 2 — Strike-Off Sample & Approval
  • Once artwork is submitted and approved, Yarrington prints a sample of your design on your selected fabric and sends it for your review
  • Strike-off sample options:
    • 6″ × 6″ sample: $5 per print
    • 36″ × fabric width sample: $50 per print (subject to change)
  • Multiple prints require separate samples (e.g., 3 prints at 36″ size = $150)
  • Shipping included for USA; additional shipping applies for international orders
  • Review the sample and send approval signature back (via email or on the physical sample)
  • If changes needed: Revised artwork is treated as a new print — additional $50 strike-off fee per sample and the process restarts from the Artwork Step

Waterproof PUL fabrics: Your strike-off sample will be printed on the unlaminated base fabric, because lamination must happen after printing. The lamination step does not change the print design — the only difference between your sample and the finished product will be the waterproof structure (thickness, stretch, waterproofing).

Step 3 — Manufacturing
  • Once strike-off is approved, AKAS Tex manufactures the base fabric and Yarrington Mills prints your design
  • Yarn procurement: ~2 weeks
  • Knitting: ~4–6 weeks
  • Finishing: ~4–6 weeks
  • Printing: ~2 weeks
  • PUL lamination (if applicable): Additional ~4–6 weeks for waterproof fabrics
  • Depending on raw material availability, manufacturing may be faster if base fabric is already in stock
Step 4 — Payment & Delivery
  • Fabric must be paid in full to Wazoodle before it ships to Yarrington Mills
  • Yarrington Mills contacts you regarding print payment — print orders must be paid in full before final shipping
  • Final invoice reflects actual finished yardage and shipping costs

Design Specifications & File Requirements

Yarrington Mills accepts both vector and raster artwork files. Print-ready files streamline the process and can save on artwork service fees.

Vector Files (AI, EPS, or PDF)
  • CMYK color space
  • Do not color manage document (Edit > Assign Profile)
  • Pattern must repeat seamlessly in both length and width with no aberrations
  • File provided at 100% size, not scaled
  • Maximum tile length: 200″
Raster Files (TIFF)
  • CMYK color space
  • 150 DPI minimum
  • Do not color manage document (Edit > Assign Profile)
  • Pattern must repeat seamlessly in both length and width with no aberrations
  • File provided at 100% size, not scaled
  • Maximum tile length: 200″
Color Matching Expectations
  • Colors are printed as received in your file
  • If a Pantone color is used, it may not output to match the Pantone book exactly due to differences in printing systems (inks, substrate, equipment, process)
  • Colors may appear differently on screen, on paper, and on fabric — this is a result of different substrates and media
  • There may be slight color variation if the same design is printed on multiple different fabrics
  • The strike-off sample is your opportunity to verify color on actual fabric before committing to production
Panel Prints
  • If providing a panel to be printed a specific number of times, include a note on orientation and quantity
  • Panel prints will create a visible hard edge between panels — account for this in your product design

Once artwork is approved, you assume all responsibility. If an error is caught during production, you will be responsible for the cost to fix the artwork and replace the printed goods. Review your strike-off sample carefully before signing approval.

Lead Times

Total project timeline depends on artwork readiness, strike-off approval, and whether the base fabric needs to be manufactured or is in stock.

Timeline Breakdown
  • Artwork Step: 3–5 business days (assuming no revisions; artwork services quoted separately for larger projects)
  • Strike-Off Sample: 2–4 weeks from approved artwork to sample in hand
  • Manufacturing: 3–6 weeks from strike-off approval (longer if base fabric needs to be knitted; shorter if base fabric is in stock)
  • PUL lamination (if applicable): Additional 4–6 weeks
  • Reorders: Faster — artwork and strike-off are already approved, so production can begin immediately if base fabric is available

Environmentally Friendly Printing

The Custom Print Program uses digital dye sublimation — an environmentally responsible printing process.

Environmental Benefits
  • Disperse reactive printing on polyester via dye sublimation/transfer
  • All printing is done digitally — no by-product waste in the process
  • Inks are eco-friendly — no washing is required during the manufacturing process
  • Combined with AKAS Tex's Made in USA base fabric manufacturing, the full process maintains domestic, environmentally responsible production
