Custom Color Program: Stock Fabrics in Your Colors

What Is the Custom Color Program?

The Custom Color Program is AKAS Tex's custom dyeing service that lets you order any Wazoodle stock fabric style in a color of your choosing — manufactured in the USA and shipped directly to you. If you've found the perfect fabric but need it in a color that isn't currently offered, this program makes it possible without developing an entirely new fabric.

Program Overview
  • Available fabrics: Any Wazoodle stock fabric that is designated as Reorderable. The full list of eligible fabrics is published on the Custom Color Program page on the website
  • Color options: Choose from Wazoodle's existing stock colors applied to a different fabric, or submit your own custom color target
  • USA manufacturing: All custom color production is manufactured by AKAS Tex at their facility in Bensalem, Pennsylvania

For printing your own designs onto Wazoodle fabric bases, see Custom Print Program. For developing entirely new fabric constructions, see New Fabric Development.

Minimum Order Quantity & Pricing

MOQ depends on the fabric and its raw material availability. Custom color runs require AKAS Tex to manufacture a full dye lot to keep pricing economical, so minimums are higher than standard retail or wholesale purchasing.

MOQ by Fabric Type
  • Fabrics available in greige (raw material) stage: Standard minimum is approximately 400 lbs — this translates to roughly 300–400 yards for heavier fabrics, or 800–1,000 yards for lighter fabrics
  • Fabrics not available in greige: MOQ varies from 500 to 1,000 yards, as yarn procurement and knitting must happen before dyeing
  • Below-MOQ orders: Orders below the standard minimum may be possible but will incur additional setup fees — contact Wazoodle for a quote
Payment Terms
  • 25% pre-order deposit is required before the Color Matching Step begins
  • 75% balance is due after manufacturing is complete — right before shipping
  • These are the only Wazoodle orders with split payment terms — all standard orders require full prepayment

Each fabric has its own MOQ and estimated delivery time. Check the Custom Color Program page for the specific fabric you're considering — MOQ and EDT are listed.

How the Process Works

The custom color process has two major phases: Color Matching and Manufacturing. AKAS Tex handles all production, and Wazoodle guides you through each step from initial inquiry to delivery.

Step 1 — Complete the Custom Color Program Form
  • Fill out your specified choices — fabric style, color preference, estimated quantity — in the Custom Color Program Intake Form
  • The form displays the MOQ and estimated delivery time for each fabric, so you know the commitment and timeline before proceeding
  • Wazoodle contacts you to walk through the process
Step 2 — Submit Your Color Target
  • Stock color: Select from Wazoodle's existing color palette to apply to your chosen fabric
  • Pantone TCX#: The preferred method for custom colors — textile-specific Pantone references are easier and faster for the AKAS Tex lab to match
  • Physical sample: If no Pantone reference is available, send a physical color sample for the lab to match — this method takes longer
Step 3 — Color Matching & Approval
  • The AKAS Tex lab matches your color target to the fabric and sends you a physical sample (lab dip) for approval
  • You review the sample and either approve or request adjustments
  • If not approved: The lab re-matches and sends new samples — manufacturing does not begin until you approve the color
  • This approval step ensures you get the color you want before committing to production
Step 4 — Manufacturing
  • Yarn procurement: ~2 weeks
  • Knitting: ~4–6 weeks
  • Dyeing & finishing: ~4–6 weeks
  • PUL lamination (if applicable): Additional ~4–6 weeks for waterproof PUL fabrics
Step 5 — Delivery
  • Final 75% balance is invoiced before shipping
  • Fabric ships from AKAS Tex's Bensalem, Pennsylvania facility
  • Final invoice reflects actual finished yardage and shipping costs

Color Matching Expectations

Custom color matching is a skilled process — but fabric color is influenced by fiber content, texture, and dyeing chemistry, so exact replication of a screen color or paper swatch is not always achievable.

What to Expect
  • Lab dip accuracy: The physical lab dip sample is the definitive color reference — what you approve is what gets manufactured. Always evaluate lab dips under natural daylight, as artificial lighting can shift color perception
  • Fiber content affects color: The same dye formula will look different on cotton vs polyester vs bamboo. Color matching is done specifically for the fabric you select
  • Batch-to-batch consistency: Reorders of the same color on the same fabric will be closely matched but may show slight lot-to-lot variation — this is normal in textile dyeing
  • Finished yardage tolerance: The finished quantity may vary ±10% from the quantity ordered. The final invoice reflects the actual finished yardage. First-quality yardage on the roll may also vary ±10% — account for this in your production planning

For full details on manufacturing tolerances and variation standards, see Specifications, Variation & Shrinkage.

Lead Times

Total project timeline ranges from approximately 12 to 24 weeks, depending on fabric type, color matching method, and whether the fabric is available in greige.

Timeline Breakdown
  • Color Matching Step:
    • Stock color: ~2 weeks
    • Pantone TCX#: ~2–3 weeks
    • Physical sample: ~4+ weeks
    • Add time if re-matching is required after initial sample review
  • Manufacturing Step: ~10–20 weeks (yarn procurement through dyeing/finishing, plus lamination if PUL)
  • Reorders: Faster for repeat colors on the same fabric, as the color formula is already established — the AKAS Tex lab can skip or shorten the color matching step

These are estimates. Each fabric has its own EDT listed. Check the Custom Color Program page for the fabric you're considering for the most accurate timeline. Fabrics available in greige raw material stage will have significantly reduced lead times.
